Marcela Capaja
Marcela joined SOIF as the Creative Lead and Network Weaver, supporting a programme of security related projects seeking to further systems thinking driver futures in the security sector. She has recently been involved in the development of forward looking provocations on the future of nuclear safeguards out to 2057, which engaged next generation voices and diverse perspectives in partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Marcela is also co-leading on further projects for the nuclear and security community, such as Pathways to Prohibition, and a Participatory Journey on New Visions for Peace and Security.
Marcela was awarded the Next Generation Foresight Practitioner Security and Technology Special Award 2021 for her project proposal focused on leveraging youth voices to shape the future global security agenda. She is also a Next Generation Champion and has participated in the National Strategy for Next Generations (NSxNG).
She has also supported the delivery of foresight training for the security community and has been championing futures thinking in the sector through a number of engagements, such as the Paris Peace Forum 2021.
Marcela is also the Senior Specialist for Strategic Futures with Natural England, furthering futures and foresight, systems thinking, and innovation in the environmental sector. In her previous role with INTERPOL, she helped to establish the first Global Horizon Scan for law enforcement, a participatory futures game and launched the first INTERPOL Young Global Police Leaders Programme. Previous experiences include working at NATO as well as supporting women’s empowerment in the MENA region.
