Ambassador Brian Wallace
Biography
Ambassador Brian Wallace is a distinguished diplomat and legal expert, currently serving as Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He assumed this role in September 2021, bringing a wealth of experience in international law and diplomacy.
Ambassador Wallace holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, a Certificate of Legal Education from Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, and a Master of Laws in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His career began in Jamaica’s Attorney General’s Chambers in 1990, followed by a decade in private legal practice, business, and political service.
His international contributions include serving as a legal adviser and prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, where he prosecuted several cases related to the Rwandan genocide. He also subsequently held various roles at the United Nations secretariat in New York.
In addition to his legal and diplomatic achievements, Ambassador Wallace has previously served as a Senator in Jamaica’s Parliament, where he contributed to debates on critical issues such as the Charter of Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. His dedication to public service and international cooperation continues to shape his work as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United Nations.
Since his appointment, Ambassador Wallace has represented Jamaica at various United Nations conferences and meetings, articulating Jamaica’s positions on issues related to sustainable development, climate change, financing for development, human rights and more, while strengthening Jamaica’s diplomatic ties with other Member States. In 2023, he was appointed as Co-Facilitator for the Declaration on Future Generations process, alongside the Permanent Representative of The Kingdom of the Netherlands. At the Summit of the Future in 2024, the Declaration was successfully adopted by consensus by UN Member States.
Ambassador Wallace also serves as Co-Chair of the Group of Friends of Children and the SDGs alongside the Permanent Representatives of Bulgaria and Luxembourg, as well as Co- Chair of the Group of Friends on SDG Financing with the Permanent Representative of Canada.
