Brokering power to SPROUT a movement (Part 2)

Threading foresight into the fabric of change

In Part 1 of this post, we introduced our work with SPROUT–a project supported by Ignite to transform the campaigns against childhood sexual violence. In Part 2, we look at the impact so far.

“This is more than a campaign—it’s a movement. A movement led by survivors.
By youth. By those who believe every child deserves to grow up safe, heard, and free.
Let’s break the silence so the violence ends.”
Sprout Youth Global Alliance (SYGA)

One of the things we learned from Sprout was that foresight holds far greater transformative power across personal, relational and systemic levels when it is part of a holistic and whole-person approach to learning. When it was woven together with embodied practices, layers of storytelling, and the sharing of lived experiences, foresight produced much deeper levels of collective and futures intelligence. SPROUTs imagined far more textured, nuanced and emotionally-informed futures than we sometimes see in more technically precise foresight work.

Impact today and dream for the future

The 2024 SPROUT cohort reframed lived experience as systems wisdom, connected a fragmented ecosystem, rejuvenated their collective agency and sprouted a brand new movement, and all in less than a year. (Its first impact report is here.)

By nurturing trust-based relationships and creating platforms where every voice is valued, Sprout is cultivating a leadership culture rooted in collaboration rather than control. This shift is already transforming how communities respond to childhood sexual violence. They are moving from reactive interventions to active, systemic change. We envision a world where children’s rights and safety are non-negotiable, where survivors lead the way in shaping solutions, and where institutions are more responsive, inclusive, and just. The Fellows of Sprout are already modelling this future, and their leadership will continue to ripple outward—informing policy, transforming services, and inspiring others to lead with courage and compassion.

Very soon we will meet the 2025 cohort of SPROUT Fellows and continue to dream together. As our colleague Evy Peña put it:

“Change doesn’t trickle down—it SPROUTs from the ground up. It grows in the spaces where unheard voices are centred, where lived experience is honoured as vital expertise, where care meets courage, and collaboration meets bold imagination. It’s cultivated by those who’ve felt the system’s flaws firsthand and dare to reimagine something better. A new generation of youth leaders is stewarding this change—but like any sprout, they need to be nurtured to thrive.”

Join the movement

In June 2024, the first SPROUT alumni created Sprout Youth Global Alliance (SYGA), and are currently running their first social media campaign #WhenSilenceBreaksViolenceEnds. They are shining a light on the systemic issues that enable child sexual abuse, and not shying away from hard and inconvenient truths, for a different and safer future for us all.
