Cressida Gaukroger
Cressida is an independent writer, philosopher, policy researcher and speaker. Her work sits at the intersection of long-term governance, wellbeing economics, government systems reform, and ethics. She works with governments across Australia and internationally to put sustainable wellbeing at the heart of policy, budgeting, and organisational culture.
Key publications include: Embedding Progress on the need for whole-of-government transformative change – looking at international examples to explore what’s working, the common challenges they face, and practical recommendations for governments. Budgeting for Wellbeing which examines how national, state, and regional governments are aligning their budget and fiscal systems with wellbeing goals. A Critical Assessment of GDP as a Measure of Economic Performance and Social Progress which brings together evidence about why Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has failed as a measure of social progress.
Cressida holds a PhD in philosophy and previously served as a departmental lecturer in practical ethics at Oxford University. She serves on the board of Think Forward, an Australian think tank which brings an economically-informed intergenerational perspective to long-term policy challenges. She is also a Research Committee member of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Australia branch.
