Johann Schutte
Johann Schutte is a foresight specialist at SOIF, facilitating foresight processes, foresight integration with strategy, capability building and training material development.
His work at SOIF includes the WHO Health Futures Strategic Dialogue programme for the Mongolian Ministry of Health, a Wales Community of Voluntary Action future process and toolkit, exploring the future of data governance in Africa through artefacts with the Omidyar Foundation, participatory design of future artificial intelligence governance with the Körber-Stiftung at the Paris Peace Forum, and a national dialogue concept with the Gulbenkian Foundation on Portugal’s future and intergenerational fairness.
Through SOIF’s Learning and Development Practice, he co-designed and facilitated the Foresight for System Transformation training programme for UN Global Pulse, for which the SOIF team received the Most Significant Futures Work Award (International) from the Association of Professional Futurists. This training was extended to UN Resident Coordinators and country office teams through the Development Coordination Office (UNDCO).
Johann developed his foresight policy expertise at UNICEF’s Data, Research and Policy Unit in New York, where he advised national committees and country offices and penned guidance notes on doing foresight in the UN system. He currently lives in Cape Town and is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists.
